We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. Many problems can be detected early with the right testing. We recommend annual exams for all pets, and more frequent exams for pets facing problems such as diabetes or heart conditions. Annual exams may include parasite testing, vaccination, and blood tests for heartworm, lyme, feline leukemia, or FIV.

Our doctors routinely perform spays and neuters and recommend this procedure for any cat or dog as early as 4 -5 months of age. Similar to surgical procedures in human medicine we screen our patients with a blood panel and place an IV catheter prior to anesthesia.

We carry several products for flea and tick prevention and are happy to help find the best product for your pet. Frontline, Advantage, Revolution, and other high quality products have been proven the safest and most effective available. Heartworm prevention is also an extremely important prescription product that should be used year-round and is available after a quick blood test.

Animals older than 7 years would benefit from a "senior comprehensive" blood panel that tests red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, liver, kidney, electrolytes, and thyroid. Urine is also commonly evaluated in animals of all ages to check for infection, crystals, and concentrating ability.

We encourage our clients to ask questions about the health of their pet. Information is always available through our doctors, technicians, and other knowledgeable staff.
